Women's Project
Monday, 16 March 2009
Funded by Comic Relief, this three year project started in April 2008. The project aims to addresses asylum support issues which are specific to vulnerable female asylum seekers.
The project aims to achieve the following outcomes:
- Increased numbers of destitute female asylum seekers who are victims of sexual violence will make successful applications for emergency support
- Refugee, women’s and advice giving organisations will improve their awareness of asylum support and ability to help women to apply for asylum support
- The project will increase awareness of the difficulties facing destitute female asylum seekers amongst policy makers
The project can help your organisations in the following ways:
- We take referrals for asylum support appeal representation for female asylum seekers.
- We provide training sessions on asylum support law in partnership with Rights of Women. These training sessions are targeted at women’s organisations. For more details, click here.
- We work collaboratively with other organisations to advocate on specific housing and welfare support issues relating to female asylum seekers. Currently, we are working on the issue of s4 eligibility criteria for heavily pregnant women. For more information, click here.
We are very keen to hear from your organisation if you need assistance with any of these above. Please feel free to contact the Legal Adviser for the project, Gerry Hickey at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or on 020 8686 1888.
